Previously, we discussed the resources available to help you apply your Design knowledge. Now, let’s dive deeper into one of the most powerful tools you can use: developing and utilizing user personas.

What Is a User Persona?

A user persona is an archetype of potential users that represents actual patterns observed during research. It’s a powerful tool for generating and evaluating potential solutions, building empathy within your organization, and ensuring that your products empower users to tackle their problems and achieve their goals.

What to Do Next:

  • Create a User Persona: Start by developing a provisional user persona, which involves gathering initial insights about your target users. It’s a collaborative effort between design and product teams to ensure that early efforts are focused on the right direction.

  • Socialize User Personas: Once refined, bring your user personas to life across the organization. Build understanding and empathy by using these personas in meetings and conversations, ensuring they are referenced regularly to maintain focus on the user’s needs throughout the product lifecycle.

When building user personas, ensure they are based on observed patterns and only include information that directly impacts the design and development process. Peers share examples of theirs here and here to give you inspiration and guidance

Next, we’ll explore how to reframe market problems using the insights gained from your user personas, but you can get a head start by exploring more about experience mapping here.
